The Rareform ‘Anderson’ Wallet Review

The Good
  • Amazing use of an otherwise wasted material. The recycled billboard vinyl that’s used looks great.
  • Fantastic upcycled material is great for its sustainable and environmental benefits.
  • A Really affordable price tag for any budget.
The Bad
  • The functionality of the wallet isn’t great. The wallet is quite large for the small capacity you get.
  • The vinyl material isn’t the most pleasant to touch and handle. That’s probably down to the fact is was never meant to be made into a wallet.

Rareform is one of the most unique wallet brands I’ve ever come across. What makes them special is the fact they’re made from recycled billboard vinyl. After a billboard is ready to be replaced Rareform step in and collection, recycle and repurpose these vinyl advertisements into amazing handmade products including bags, accessories, and of course wallets. Because of the abstract nature of billboard advertisements and their designs, Rareform creates some of the most unique and customizable wallets on the market. When you browse the Rareform website you can clearly see the intricate and abstract patterns that each wallet provides.

Today, we’re going to be reviewing the Anderson Wallet probably the most popular wallet made by Rareform. We’ll be giving our opinion on the distinctive vinyl material, the range of color options available, and whether its worth its price tag. Let’s get straight into it.

What is the wallet made from?

As mentioned the main material the wallet is made from is used and discarded billboards. This specifically, is vinyl and is strong yet durable as opposed to other commonly used billboard material such as paper. This vinyl is cut to shape and stretched over the outside of the Rareform wallet.

Rareform also says that they’re really choosey when it comes to the exact billboard adds they upcycle. For example, they tend to go for patterns that have more vibrant colors, with more interesting patterns and variations. This can very much be seen when you browse through their wallet range. You won’t find any wallets with darker or muted tones so any wallet you choose will stand out from the crowd. At the time of writing this article, I counted over 30 different styles available to choose from with what I assume will.be more as they harvest more billboards.

The material itself has an interesting texture one that I’m personally not a fan of. It has a sort of cheap plastic feel to it while being overly light (which is a good thing) but does take away from the general quality and feel of the wallet. Along with this on initial unboxing the Rareform wallet was a little stiff but with time I assume it will loosen up a get better.

What features does the wallet have?

When it comes to the features of the Rareform wallet I think it’s satisfactory at best. The wallet is designed and styled over a traditional bi-fold (I bought and used the Anderson wallet), although other smaller more minimalist versions are available. The wallet is a decent size coming in at 4.5″ W x 3.25″ H x .5″ D and can fit in a front or back pocket without becoming overly bulky.

The outside of the wallet has no features which I assume is done purposely as to not detract from the vinyl designs of the billboards. Inside you’ll find 4 card slots (with a capacity of around 4-8 credit/debit cards) a mesh ID slot and a full-width cash slot at the top. Over the month I used this the wallet was easy to use and worked as intended.

Is it a good price?

The Rareform Anderson wallet comes in at a very reasonable price tag of $25.00. I think this is a fantastic price tag and by far on the lower end compared to most wallets I’ve reviewed (especially recycled wallets that can be much more expensive). Other wallets in the Rareform range are also well priced with the most expensive wallet in their range, The Madison, only coming in at $35.00 .

What are the alternatives?

If you’re interested in a wallet that’s been made from recycled materials then you have a wide range of options available to choose from. Whether you want a strong durable material or one made from a unique material I’m sure there’s something for you. The alternative wallets I recommend below are all recycled wallets much like the Rareform wallet we’ve reviewed today. Final Verdict

Overall, I’ve been pretty impressed with the Rareform wallet – specifically the Anderson wallet. Owning a distinctive and uniquely made wallet such as this adds so much more character to your everyday carry and makes items like this a joy to carry. The wallet doesn’t necessarily provide any great functions when it comes to carrying cash or cards but it doesn’t need to.

Finally, the Rareform range of wallets also has the added benefits of using recycled goods that otherwise would end up in a landfill, or worst, our oceans. This sustainable and environment aspect is by far one of the biggest selling points of this recycled wallet in my opinion.
