Released back in 2012 as part of a successful Kickstarter campaign the folks at Scene 3 Designs are using recycled or reclaimed skateboards to develop a huge variety of different goods including my favorite piece - The Skateboard Slim Wallet. This wallet is simple in design and takes inspiration from the many cardholder style wallets on the market today. The biggest difference is the uniqueness of the wallet and the quality of the craftsmanship.
TL;DR: A beautifully unique wallet with a hint of sustainability. A wonderful wallet for those looking for uniqueness while keeping their EDC (everyday carry) to a minimum.
What is the Wallet Made from?
As a huge supporter of sustainability, I always commend those who try to recycle goods. The skateboard slim wallet is a great example of this incorporated in a wallet as it provides an alternative use for used and abused skateboard decks. This adds character to the wallet as well as providing some unique individuality that you wouldn’t normally get from a wallet. Knowing these wallets have been used as a skateboard really adds a different dimension and makes me smile every time I think about it.
What are the Wallets Features?
The skateboard slim comes in at 30mm x 90mm which is just a little larger than a credit or debit card. Included with the wallet comes to a one-inch wide band that encapsulates wrapping around the skateboard panel allowing to securely hold your cash, cards, and other items. The band is also made from recycled materials made from the inner tubing of bicycle tires, a very nice touch. Overall, the wallet is very simple and elegant in its design. Meant for minimalist lovers who don’t carry much with them the wallet can hold anywhere between 1-8 cards comfortably and decent room for banknotes folded and stored under the band.
Is it a Good Price?
The Skateboard slim wallet retails at $24.00 which is a really fantastic and affordable price tag. I really have no issues paying such a low price tag for such a unique wallet and am honestly surprised they aren’t more expensive as you can’t find recycled skateboard wallets anywhere outside of Scene 3 Designs.
What are the alternatives?
If you’re looking for another wallet made from recycled skateboards then you’ll be out of luck. As far as I’m aware only Scene 3 Designs are creating such an exclusive range of goods from the recycled materials which definitely makes it unique, to say the least. That being said, there is a range of different brands out there using other reclaimed items to create a great range of unique and sustainability-driven wallets. Final Verdict
Overall, I was very impressed with the Skateboard Slim Wallet. It was a joy to use, looks amazing with its multi-colored striped designs. The icing on the cake is obviously the fact it uses recycled goods and knowing my wallet has a history as something else makes it even more special.
