Nomad Passport Wallet

Nomad is a brand I first stumbled upon when looking for smart wallets. Starting as a Kickstarter project in 2012, Nomad has grown rapidly over the last decade creating a huge array of goods related to the tech world and with an ethos of resourcefulness, seeking adventure, and living in the moment. Nomad for me combined the best of traditional design, innovation, and amazing quality. Today we’re going to be looking at one of the few different wallets available from Nomad - There Passport Wallet.

Look & Design

Material choice is important to Nomad and they are a company that prioritizes design and quality over everything else. Because of this, Nomad provides some of the best quality and craftsmanship I’ve come across in quite some time. Their choice of leather is one of the best on the markets. Made from Full-Grain, thick hide, Horween Leather. Horween is the name of one of the most famous tanneries in the world. Founded in 19xx in Chicago, they have built a brand and quality of leather that exceeds most and when combined with Nomad’s craftsmanship, design, and wonderful choice of leather.

Horween Leather is also known for developing a beautiful patina over extended use. This means, that over time the leather will slowly change in texture, look, and appearance. The leather tends to get darker with unique patternations completing unique to your wallet. It’s a look that many people strive for in a wallet and something that can easily be attained with any Nomad wallet thanks to Horween Leather.

Functionality & Utility

As with many Passport wallets, functionality is key and you’ll want enough space to accommodate a range of items. Size is also important and although passport wallets are always going to be larger than most, the Nomad Passport Wallet does a great job of keeping this slim with the wallets total size only just coming in at slightly larger than a passport itself (dimensions: Width: 12.6cm x Length: 17.7cm x Height: 2.4cm).

Inside the wallet, you have a range of different slots and compartments to use. In total, the Nomad Passport Wallet has 9 slots. Five of these slots are standard credit/debit card slots that can store, at a push, 2 cards each for a total of 10 cards. The remaining 4 slots are much larger in size and are used to accommodate other paper items such as physical cash, any tickets, and, of course, your passport that has a dedicated slot entirely for it. The layout of the wallet is perfect and utilizes the space effectively for easy access to what you need at a moment’s notice.

Smart Features

One unique aspect of the Nomad Passport Wallet is its integration with smart technology. This is thanks to Nomad’s partnership with Tile, a company that develops small tracking devices that are shaped to easily fit inside any wallet. As standard, all Nomad Wallets, including their Passport Wallet, comes with one of these tracking cards. Nomad wallets are designed specifically to fit these tracking devices seamlessly and in a non-intrusive way so you won’t even notice it’s there.

This Tile Tracking card comes with many features that enhance the functionality of your wallet. Its main feature is GPS Tracking. This integrates with your smartphone (through a specific app) and allows you to track the whereabouts of your wallet. This is great for people who might lose their phone often and want an easy way to keep track of it. A nice addition to any wallet and even more useful when it comes to travel.

Final Verdict

Overall, I was very impressed with my time using the Nomad Passport Wallet. It is the perfect example of simple functionality, amazing design, and top-notch craftsmanship. The wallet just works as is laid out in an easy-to-use fashion where you’ll have no issue with getting what you need at a moment’s notice. Coming in at a price tag of $99.95 the Nomad wallet isn’t cheap, but definitely a fair price tag for what you get. Keep in mind this is also for the full leather version including the tile tracking card. If you want just the wallet and the standard Passport Wallet then you can bring the price as low as $59.95.
