Cordel Wallet Review

The Cordel Wallet is a beautifully minimalist leather wallet with a unique folding design. Unlike traditional wallets, it’s completely stitchless, relying instead on a precise folding mechanism secured by a thin elastic band. This construction gives it a sleek, modern look while maintaining a practical and functional design. Crafted from premium full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, the wallet has a rich texture that feels luxurious to the touch. It has a thick hide that aids not just in its strength and durablity overimte but in the premium feel you get. On first unboxing i was stunned by, not only have small this wallet is but also the smell. I was met with a wonderful leather small which for me is immediately a good sign this is going to be a quality wallet.

Having used the wallet as my daily carry wallet for around 1 month, over time, it started developing a stunning patina, adding character and a vintage charm that makes each piece unique. The raw hide can also be seen on the inside or underside of the Cordel Wallet (kind of like a suadue) which adds to the wallet and the fact the Cordel is stitchless is an advatnage in terms of long term duaribility. Overtime, typical stiched wallets can degrade faster due to wear and tear, lose stiching and frayed stray edges. The Cordel wallet cleverly avoids this.

Over this testing period, I was genuinely impressed with its versatility. It can comfortably hold anywhere from a single card to 10+ cards, though in my experience, anything beyond five cards starts to add bulk and put noticeable strain on the elastic. The back slot is ideal for storing cash, but thanks to its clever design, it also works surprisingly well for coins, creating a secure little pocket that prevents them from slipping out.

If there’s one drawback, it’s the choice of elastic. While the leather is outstanding in quality, the elastic band feels thin and somewhat flimsy in comparison. Images alone show how this elastic is no thicker than 4-5 mm which really brings down the quality of the wallet in my oppion it feels so cheap compared to the rest of the wallet and its construction. Over time, I worry that it may wear down or snap, which could affect the wallet’s longevity. That said,

Speaking of construction you may have noticed the wallet looks very clean and on further inspection that’s because the wallet doesn’t use any stiching at all, which more often than not, is common in the majoirty of leather wallets (the other other wallets i can think of off the top of my head which use this stichless design are the Loyal Strichlin Johnny Wallet and the Wask Wallet by Willow Craft Goods). In my experience, this gives two disintct advanctages.

The first it keeps costs down for the manufacuring of this wallet as its a lot less time consuming to constuct - a benfit which is passed onto the customer so we get a cheaper priced wallet that still has the quality you’d expect form a full grain leather. The second, and this is peronsal oppnion, makes the wallet more durable and more likely to last longer over time. This is due to the fact over time tradtinally build wallets that are threaded can degrade over use, the thread becomes frayed or comes away eventually breaking the wallet completly. This obviously isn’t the case all the time but with cheaper wallets i have found this is almost an given over a long period of time. The Cordel wallet doesn’t suffer from this problem.

Final Verdict: Is the Cordel Wallet Worth it?

At just $37.40, the Cordel Wallet is a fantastic value, offering a premium feel at an affordable price. The nitpicks i had regarding the wallets elastic - is exactly that - something that i’ll monitor but wasn’t an issue over the period of time i used the wallet.
