Is this the Solution to Gambling Habits?

The Winners Bank200 Wallet is a usual wallet with a very niche unique selling point. The wallet was designed for those who indulge a little too much in gambling and would like a way to keep those winnings or stop spending more money altogether, in a compact wallet.

I first stumbled across this wallet in this old article by Gizmodo all the way back in 2006. This was somewhat shocking to me as the Winners Bank200 itself has quite a modern design and features not common in wallets from that period. As I said, the wallet is designed for Gamblers to help them gamble less and ‘cut their loses’ when having a bad session.

The wallet is a self-contained box where its contents can only be accessed through a key. A thin slot at the top of the wallet enables you to slide in cash, cards, and even Casino Chips, but be unable to gain access to them without the key. The idea is as you win money you simply put it inside the WinnersBank Wallet. With the key left at home the more, you win the more you save and you won’t be tempted to gamble any winnings away.

The wallet itself comes with a handy instructional card on how to use the card. It reads:

  1. Leave the key at home (key to the wallet).
  2. Leave all credit/debit cards and checkbooks at home.
  3. Bring only a set amount of money along with a positive attitude.

The real question and one that I can’t answer is how well the wallet performs at getting people who gamble too much to stop. Gambling is a rising issue across the world thanks to the ease at which people can do so online and even on their smartphones. This is something this wallet can’t control.

The winner’s bank requires an already huge amount of self-control. If you’re gambling is out of control it’s very likely the WinnersBank wouldn’t help in curbing your gambling habit. You’d just ignore you bought the wallet and go gambling anyway. There’s also the caveat of Online Gambling which wasn’t as prevalent, or none existent in some cases, back when the wallet hit the market around the mid-2000s.

For me, the Winners Bank200 is a product of its time. It has a good design and is well made, but I can’t see the merit for most individuals with a gambling addiction, and definitely not if you favor online gambling which is the predominant form of gambling in 2022.

That being said, if you’re the type of person who wants to cut back on their gambling habits and only do so in a real-life casino then the WinnersBank isn’t that bad of an option. At a price tag of $33.95, the wallet is very affordable for what you get including a fully integrated lockable system and a very sturdy all-metal design.
