Saffiano Leather

Saffiano leather was first produced in one of Italy’s most famous tanneries and was a signature development & patent of the designer clothing brand Prada. Saffiano leather was originally made from the highest quality calf leather that prided itself on its high quality yet smooth nature. That being said, the term Saffiano isn’t legally protected, since its patent expired, meaning any tannery can theoretically produce the leather at varying qualities and use the term Saffiano.

Thanks to the reputation the Prada gave to Saffinao Leather, and since its patent expired, Saffiano Leather has been adopted by many other highly respectable brands including the likes of Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and Coach. This is great for the exposure of Saffiano Leather but does mean the variety of companies producing the leather increases making the potential variations in quality higher. It’s not uncommon to find certain types of Saffinao being made from the poorer grades of leather such as Genuine or PU Leather.

Overall, Saffiano Leather is of great quality but since the Patent expired from Prada the sheer volume of production increased amounting to a huge variation in quality. My recommendation is to stick to those higher class brands (as mentioned above) to guarantee the quality, durability, and array of designing you’re looking for.
