Secrid has released a new wallet, and this one represents a genuine first for the Dutch brand in more ways than one. The Envelope Wallet is the first product in Secrid's entire range to feature an integrated coin compartment, and it is the most deliberate move the brand has made toward a female audience. Both of those things are worth talking about.

The Coin Compartment

Secrid does already sell a coin storage solution. Their Coinpocket accessory is a clever origami-inspired add-on that slots into an existing card slot in any Secrid wallet and provides space for coins and small items. It is an impressive piece of engineering in its own right, with a transparent design that lets you see what is inside and a mechanism tested to 18,000 cycles. But it is an add-on, and that distinction matters. Retrofitting a solution to a wallet that was not designed with coin storage in mind is always going to feel like a compromise.

The Envelope Wallet changes that. The coin compartment here is built in from the ground up, integrated into the wallet’s structure rather than occupying a card slot as an afterthought. It unfolds to reveal what Secrid describes as unexpected spaciousness, with capacity for more than eight coins alongside small items like tokens, a ring, keys, or an SD card. It is the same concept done properly, and the difference between the two approaches should be immediately apparent in hand.

The Design and Who It Is For

Look at the product photography for the Envelope Wallet and the target customer is obvious. The colour palette leans feminine: the Ballet colourway is a soft pink, and the campaign imagery is shot primarily with a female audience in mind. Secrid says the wallet matches with both masculine and feminine styles, which is true enough, but the brand is clearly pushing this one toward a demographic it has not historically served particularly well.

From a business perspective this is a smart move and arguably an overdue one. The wallet market has been male-dominated for as long as it has existed, and most of the leading brands (think Ridge) reflect that in their designs, colour choices, and marketing. Women carry cards and cash too, and the number of brands actively designing for that audience is still surprisingly small. Andar is one of the few that comes to mind as having made a genuine effort. Secrid entering that space with a product that has a clear point of difference, at a brand level that is already well established, is a logical step.

Specs and What You Get

The Envelope Wallet is built around Secrid’s standard aluminium Cardprotector, which provides RFID protection and the brand’s familiar one-motion card ejection mechanism. On top of that core, the leather exterior adds two extra card slots, space for receipts and business cards, and the integrated coin and small items compartment. Total card capacity is up to six flat cards in the Cardprotector or four embossed, plus two more in the exterior slots.

It is available in Original, Vintage, and Pebble leather finishes across a range of colours. All wallets are assembled in sheltered workshops in the Netherlands, consistent with Secrid’s long-standing manufacturing approach and its B Corp certification. The Envelope Wallet is priced at $109.00.

First Impressions

First impressions are positive. The Envelope Wallet sits close to the Secrid Miniwallet in terms of its overall form, combining the pop-up mechanism with a leather exterior, but the integrated coin storage gives it a genuine point of difference within the range. Coins are less commonly carried than they once were, particularly in markets where contactless payment dominates, but there is still a meaningful group of people who carry change regularly and have limited good options for storing it properly in a slim wallet. The Envelope Wallet addresses that directly.

I have not yet had this wallet in hand, so a full verdict will have to wait. But on paper it is one of the more considered releases Secrid has put out in recent memory: a genuine product innovation, a new market segment, and a price point that sits within the brand’s established range. Worth watching.
