Secrid Introduces Premium+ Collection of Wallets
A new line of refined, durable, and responsibly made wallets.
In recent years, more wallet makers have started introducing so-called “premium” lines, aiming to offer elevated takes on their existing designs. Earlier this year, Ekster rolled out its Pro Wallet before following up with a higher-end cardholder and other upgrades. Now Secrid, the Dutch brand that pioneered the pop-up card mechanism, still one of the most popular wallet styles today, has launched its own Premium Collection. Here’s a closer look at what’s new, what remains familiar, and how the higher price point compares to Secrid’s standard range.
Dutch brand Secrid has announced the launch of its Premium+ Collection, a new line of wallets that pushes its minimalist designs into more luxurious territory. The range combines Secrid’s focus on engineering and durability with upgraded materials, finishes, and a redesigned core mechanism, marking the biggest step forward in its product line since the original Cardprotector.
Secrid’s story stretches back to the 1990s, when its founders, working in design consultancy, noticed how pockets were changing as cards replaced cash. This insight led to their first wallet concept, the Secrid Bodycard, and later, the creation of Secrid itself in 2009 during the European financial crisis. The company set out to reimagine pocket essentials, blending Dutch design with function. Today, Secrid wallets are sold in more than 8,500 stores worldwide, with production rooted in the Netherlands. In 2022, the company achieved B Corp certification, reflecting its commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices.
What Sets the Premium+ Collection Apart
At the centre of the Premium+ line is the new Cardprotector+, an evolution of Secrid’s signature mechanism. It introduces an autolock system with redesigned springs capable of securely holding even heavy metal cards. The mechanism now incorporates vegan high-tech fibres for the internal brake pads, offering durability under all conditions. Every Premium+ wallet includes this new feature, alongside a 7-year warranty - two years longer than Secrid’s standard guarantee.
The collection also stands out for its elevated design. Each wallet features a sleek flat closure button, European leathers sourced from renowned Italian tanneries, and an upgraded stainless-steel lever with a diamond-pattern detail at the base. The choice of finishes, gold, silver, or gunmetal, adds a refined aesthetic. Over time, the leather develops a rich patina, deepening in colour and texture.
A Brand Built on Sustainability: Responsible Luxury
While Secrid wallets have always been made in Europe, the Premium+ collection puts added emphasis on materials and suppliers. The brand partners with long-established Italian tanneries such as Vivolo, La Bretagna, and Carlab, each known for combining tradition with innovation. Vivolo provides embossed sheep leather for Premium+ Emboss wallets, La Bretagna supplies vegetable-tanned leather for the Dusk, Basco, and Floral Stitch editions, while Carlab collaborated with Secrid to develop Naplak leather, a glossy cowhide finish unique to this collection.
A Step Beyond the Standard Range
Compared to Secrid’s standard line, Premium+ wallets elevate both form and function. Where the regular Cardprotector is built around durability and simplicity, the Cardprotector+ adds advanced engineering, premium materials, and longer warranty protection. The aesthetic has also shifted, with a stronger focus on artisanal leatherwork and refined details designed to appeal to customers looking for what Secrid calls “responsible luxury.”
The Premium+ Collection signals a new chapter for Secrid - one that retains the brand’s design DNA while pushing its products further into the world of high-end, ethically produced pocketwear.
