Groove Life Release New Wallet: Introducing the Groove Stealth Wallet
Groove Life's latest minimalist wallet challenges Ridge with a distinctive design.
The minimalist wallet market has become increasingly saturated in recent years, with countless brands offering what is essentially the same metal plate design with minor tweaks. It's refreshing, then, when a company takes a step back and asks: how can we make this better, not just different? Groove Life, known for shaking up the wallet space with their innovative pop-up design, are back with another attempt to carve out their own identity in a sea of Ridge copycats - introducing the Groove Stealth Wallet.
Groove Life have been on my radar ever since they invented and evolved the pop-up wallet with their original Groove Wallet - meet the Groove Stealth Wallet. This wallet was a little bit of a game changer, in my opinion anyway, and showcased that wallet brands are still capable of innovating, even as late as 2022. Now, launched in early 2022, Groove Life have released their latest wallet, a more stripped-back minimalist plate system wallet to rival the likes of Ridge. So what does it offer, and is it worthy of a wallet upgrade this year?

What is the new Stealth Wallet?
Groove Life’s latest wallet, named the Stealth, is a minimalist take on the wallet, resembling the likes of other popular metal and minimalist wallets on the market such as the Ridge, Axwell or the myriad of other plate-system wallets available. A plate-system wallet, as I dub it, is simple in principle, with two usually metal plates held together with elastic. Credit and debit cards are stored between the two plates, creating a sort of card sandwich. It’s a simple, effective, tried-and-tested style of wallet that’s been popular for over a decade at this point.
But how does the new Groove Stealth Wallet differ from some of the others on the market? Well, the first thing to note is its design. It’s no secret that wallets are slowly becoming more of a fashion accessory, as opposed to a purely functional item, with people prioritising its design and aesthetic over its actual capacity as a wallet. The Ridge wallet pioneered this with its sleek, minimalist all-metal design. The Stealth wallet has gone down the same thought process, creating a wallet with a distinctive look and feel with its design.
This includes an ultra-refined look with brushed metal on the front, edges that taper inwards and metal plates that are actually smaller than a credit card with a more triangular look. What do I think? I really like the design, and it really is distinctive compared to other wallets on the market. For more, copycat and recycled designs dominate the wallet market, with very little to choose from in terms of uniqueness or creativity. I could put 50 wallets in a police line-up and easily pick out the Stealth wallet because of this. But at the end of the day, design and how something looks is entirely subjective, so while I may like it, others may find the design garish or over the top.

Anything unique about its functionality?
With any wallet in this style, the functionality is usually quite barebones. Cards sit in the middle, stored securely, with cash usually being stored under an elastic strap, folded. The Stealth wallet doesn’t do much different in this regard. It does feature a typical quick-access slot, that’s the cut-out in the bottom of the metal, that allows you to push your cards outwards for easy access. 14 cards storage, as advertised by Groove Life, is plenty, but keep in mind this probably isn’t ideal, as the more you store, the bulkier the wallet gets and the harder it becomes to access cards within as the elastic tightens and cards in the middle of the stack get lost. These aren’t direct criticisms of the Stealth Wallet itself, but more of the overall type of wallet this is and isn’t exclusive to this brand but all wallets under this design style.

Durbality and Build Quality: Good enough for most
Quality materials can be elusive in the wallet market, whether that’s genuine leather wallets marketed as the ‘best’, or cheap metal that weighs less than plastic, it can be hard to find something that truly resembles luxury or quality. From the specs given by Groove Life, it seems no expense was spared on creating a full, well-rounded wallet when quality materials are involved. The metal is an aerospace-grade aluminium, top quality, while its elastic is strong yet flexible for easy access to cards. To top it all off, the interchangeable front panels means that any scuffs or scratches the wallet may experience over time can easily be replaced without having to purchase an entire new wallet.
Will I be Purchasing the Groove Stealth Wallet?
The simple answer is - yes. Although these style of wallets are prevalent across the market today, the Stealth has done a great job of creating a new, attractive design and one that stands the uniqueness test in terms of innovation and quality. From its good capacity and unique interchangeable plates, I’ll be taking the plunge and investing in this wallet to eventually put it through its paces to really see if it stands up against the big players - mainly Ridge. For now, the Stealth wallet can be yours for a modest $49.95, which in itself is great, as it significantly undercuts many other metal wallets on the market.
