MagSafe has firmly cemented its place in everyday carry, and I’ve always enjoyed watching how the tech has evolved since Apple introduced it in 2020. What began with basic accessories like wallets has expanded into everything from key holders to attachable power banks — all powered by a deceptively simple magnetic system. Building on this wave of innovation, tech brand Hyodo has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for their latest creation: the MagBase™ Wallet. It’s a sustainable, modular MagSafe wallet designed with replaceable components to reduce waste and maximise versatility.
Hyodo has officially unveiled its latest innovation on Kickstarter — the MagBase™ Wallet, a modular magnetic wallet system designed for both Apple and Android users. Marketed as the world’s first inter-swappable MagSafe wallet, the MagBase aims to solve a long-standing issue with magnetic wallets: waste caused by having to replace an entire unit when only one part wears out.
With a focus on sustainability and practical design, Hyodo’s MagBase rethinks how we interact with magnetic wallets. At its core is the MagBase™ unit itself — a sleek, ultra-slim base precision-milled from a solid block of aluminium and fitted with strong edge-to-edge magnets. It acts as a permanent foundation onto which various interchangeable Plates can be snapped, offering a range of wallet functions and styles. Options include a classic leather sleeve, a finger loop for grip, and even a phone stand — all of which can be swapped in seconds using Hyodo’s stainless steel Ejector Tool.
The innovation lies not just in the swappable system but in how it’s engineered. The Plates themselves contain no magnets, instead relying on a seamless mechanical connection with the MagBase, which ensures a firm hold with simple, tool-assisted removal. Each wallet comes with the ejector tool included, drawing inspiration from the familiar SIM tool bundled with iPhones.
MagBase™ is fully MagSafe-compatible, working natively with iPhones 12 and above. For Android devices or older iPhones, Hyodo includes a Metal Adapter Ring to ensure universal compatibility.
