The World’s First Chipboard Wallet

The Chip Wallet is a chipboard ultra-lightweight and slim wallet that first came onto the scene back in 2017 where it secured a small, but significant, crowdfunding of around $7,000. Three years later and the brand has kept to its unique minimalist design selling the Chip Wallet exclusively through amazon and crazy low prices.

The most notable thing about the Chip Wallet is its choice of material. Made from chipboard, the Chip wallet is the first wallet I’ve ever reviewed that uses this odd choice of material. Chipboard, similar to other wooden wallets, provides a nice array of advantageous features including being both durable, lightweight, and providing a distinct texture and look. The guys at Chip Wallet also boast chipboard is also better for the environment as its a recycled friendly natural, natural and sustainable.

In terms of functionality, the wallet has some special features to offer. As a minimalist wallet, the Chip comes in at only 9 x 6.5 x 0.1 inches and can hold up to 10 credit/debit cards that a secured between two chipboard plates and held together with an elasticated band. The wallet also comes with 2 additional plates that help to expand on what the wallet can hold. These plates provide ‘cutouts’ for other such items including the likes of keys and cash. A really innovative way of storage that works well enough for those who want to use it.

The best thing about the Chip Wallet is its price tag coming in at only $12.99. The only negative I can see is how well the durability of the chipboard will last over time. It does seem quite flimsy like I could snap it if I wanted, so it’s hard to say what shape the material will be in over, say, a year of continuous use.
