NIID's NEX Slim Wallet Has Raised $102,000 on Kickstarter

NIID is a brand most people will know from the bag and backpack space rather than the wallet world. Founded in 2014 by Jason Li and Harris Haynie after the pair noticed that most business professionals in New York were carrying bags with little style and even less functionality, the brand launched its first Decode backpack in 2015 and has been running successful Kickstarter campaigns ever since. The NEX Slim Wallet is their latest, and it is doing very well.

With 10 days remaining on the campaign, the NEX has raised over $102,000 from 1,713 backers against what was almost certainly a modest initial goal. It closes on August 5, 2026.
What the NEX Wallet Actually Is…
The NEX is a 1cm thick bifold-style wallet built around a magnetic closure rather than a zip or snap. The magnets snap the wallet shut with a clean, satisfying clack, which is a small detail but one that contributes to how the wallet feels to use. No zip to pull, no flap to fold. Just flip it closed and it locks.
Inside, two card slots sit on either side with RFID blocking built in. Behind those are tap-and-go slots designed for transit passes, IDs, or any card you want accessible without opening the wallet fully, and a cash compartment occupies the middle section. Capacity is solid for the size.
The detail that caught my eye is the Micro-Stash pockets on both ends of the wallet. These are small magnetic snap compartments that open and close on the side of the wallet body, designed to hold loose coins, a SIM card, a SIM ejector pin, or similar small items. It is a feature that immediately reminded me of what re:form do with their wallet design, where secondary compartments are built into the structure of the wallet rather than added as an afterthought. There is also a built-in lanyard loop for those who want to clip the wallet to a bag or wrist.
A Range of Unique Materials on Offer
Three material options are available. Cordura, a 610-denier nylon that is matte, rugged, and built for durability. Smooth genuine leather, which develops a patina over time. And Nebula Fabric, a 100 percent nylon with a subtle texture that shifts slightly in the light. All three are described as being chosen not just for appearance but for how they behave in daily use in terms of touch, durability, and long-term aging. The leather option is the obvious pick for anyone who wants something that improves with use.
My Honest Take: Will I Be Backing the NEX?
The NEX is a well-executed wallet that reminds me in format and feel of the Pioneer range, which operates in similar territory with technical materials and considered construction. It is clearly popular, and looking at the campaign it is not hard to see why. The magnetic closure is smart, the micro-stash pockets are a genuinely useful touch, and the material options give it broader appeal than most wallets at this level.
That said, there is nothing here that makes me want to back it myself. It is a solid wallet, but it is not doing anything dramatically new. If you are in the market for a slim, well-built everyday wallet with a clean magnetic closure and a bit of extra small-item storage, the NEX is worth a look. I will be watching how the community receives it once units start arriving.
