Ekster Is Redesigning the Wallet Pro Less Than a Year After Launch

I reviewed the Ekster Wallet Pro when it launched and came away broadly positive. It improved on the original Ekster Wallet in meaningful ways: the metal ejection mechanism was a step up, the Italian Vachetta leather was a genuine material upgrade, and the capacity bump to 14 cards was welcome. My one reservation at the time was that in creating a better version of its own wallet, Ekster inadvertently shone a light on the limitations of the original. That aside, it was a good wallet.

So it was a genuine surprise to receive an email from Ekster this week announcing that the Wallet Pro is being redesigned already. The wallet has been on the market for less than a year. A new version is coming.

The Details So Far From Ekster

The email from Ekster was direct: “You carried it. You loved it. You told us what could be better. We listened. We went back to the drawing board and reworked the details that mattered most. The result is the new Wallet Pro.”

Credit where it is due. This kind of response to customer feedback, particularly on a wallet that has only been available for a matter of months, is not common. The more typical brand response is to defend the existing product and quietly iterate further down the line. Ekster has done the harder thing, which is to acknowledge that something was not right and rebuild it. That takes confidence and it reflects well on the brand.

What Is Actually Changing with the Ekster Pro?

Full details are limited at this stage. From the images available, the most visible change is the addition of a snap button closure that keeps the wallet shut securely. This is something no Ekster wallet has previously had, and it immediately calls to mind the Secrid Miniwallet, which uses a similar approach. Whether that comparison is favorable or unfavorable depends on your perspective, but as a functional addition it addresses one of the more common complaints about leather pop-up wallets generally.

The leather also appears to have changed. The current Wallet Pro uses Italian Vachetta with a matte, slightly suede-like character. The new version looks shinier in early images, suggesting a different finish or leather treatment, though this is speculative until more information is released. Beyond these two observations, I cannot say much more about what has changed without hands-on time with the new version.
