There is a specific kind of design energy that lives somewhere between nostalgia and chaos, where something is simultaneously a bit ridiculous and genuinely cool. It is the vibe I find myself saving to my phone far too often in daily life, and it is exactly the vibe that Thread Wallets has nailed with their much-anticipated collaboration with Diet Coke. Not Coca-Cola. Not Classic Coke. Diet Coke specifically, in all its silver-can, vintage-logo, unapologetically extra glory.

The collection is live now and it is exactly what you would hope for from a Thread x Diet Coke collab. Classic silver colorways, retro branding, the iconic logo rendered across wallets, zip cases, and accessories in a way that somehow manages to look cool rather than tacky. If you are going to be a walking billboard for a multinational beverage company, at least make it this one.

About Thread Wallets (they’re pretty good)

For anyone who has not come across Thread wallets before, they are a Utah-based accessories brand that set out to answer one specific question: why are wallets so boring? The brand was built on the idea that a wallet should be an expression of personality rather than an afterthought, and they have pursued that relentlessly through a catalog of over 100 designs spanning prints, patterns, collaborations, and colorways that no other wallet brand comes close to matching.

I have had the pleasure of using a fair few Thread products over the years and they consistently punch well above their price point. The classic elastic wallet is as minimal as carry gets: a tight-knit elastic band with two pockets for cards and cash and a built-in D-ring for attaching to a lanyard or key loop. It is one of the most no-nonsense wallets on the market and one of the best value ones too, coming in at just $15.99.

For anyone who wants something a step up, the Vertical Leather Wallet combines Thread’s signature elastic with a leather exterior and a RFID-blocking inner pocket. It is one of the slimmest leather wallets I have used in a while and at $24.99 it is still remarkably affordable for the quality. Both wallets are available in the Diet Coke collection, which is the main event here.

The Diet Coke Collection

The collab spans three distinct Diet Coke print designs across the full Thread product range. The Cans print features the classic silver Diet Coke can rendered across the wallet in an all-over repeat. The Logo print takes a cleaner approach, leading with the iconic Diet Coke wordmark on a silver background. The Kiss print is the most playful of the three, drawing on the brand’s lifestyle imagery.

Each design is available across the Elastic Wallet, Vertical Leather Wallet, Leather Zip Wallet, and a Wristlet Keychain, so there is a format for every carry style. The Zip Wallet in particular is worth a look for anyone who wants a more enclosed carry with the Diet Coke aesthetic, retailing at $30.00.

The design work is strong. Thread has leaned into the classic silver and red palette that makes the Diet Coke brand instantly recognizable, using vintage-era logo treatments that tap into the nostalgia that surrounds the brand. It is a natural fit for Thread’s aesthetic given their history of bold, graphic designs, and it is executed cleanly rather than feeling like a cash-grab slap of branding on a generic product.

A Sign of Things to Come?

Thread’s entire identity is built around the idea that a wallet should reflect who you are, and collaborations like this are the logical extension of that philosophy taken to its most playful extreme. The Diet Coke collab works precisely because it does not take itself seriously. You know what you are getting. It is fun, it is a conversation starter, and it sits naturally within Thread’s broader catalog of expressive designs.

It also opens an interesting door. If a Diet Coke collaboration works for Thread, which based on the designs it really does, then the obvious question is what comes next. A Pokemon collab would be a natural fit given the crossover between the brand’s younger audience and the enduring popularity of that franchise. A Lego collaboration in the same vein would make equal sense. The design language Thread has established, bold, graphic, unapologetically fun, lends itself well to licensed brand partnerships, and Diet Coke has proven the format can land properly when executed with care.

For now the Diet Coke x Thread collection is the one to look at. If the idea of carrying a wallet that doubles as a declaration of your soft drink allegiance appeals to you, and honestly why would it not, this is exactly what you are looking for.
