A new Kickstarter project is turning heads in the EDC world with an unusual take on survival gear. The Grappling Hook – Wallet Edition promises to bring a touch of adventure to your pocket, combining portability with practical function in a tool no bigger than a credit card.

The world of everyday carry has just taken an unusual turn with the launch of the Omelchenko Grappling Hook – Wallet Edition, now live on Kickstarter. Designed by Anatoliy Omelchenko, a creator known for his innovative survival gear, this new accessory has already exceeded its funding goal, raising £1,777 against a target of £995, with 48 days still left to go.

What makes this product so unique is its credit card-sized design, built to slip neatly into a wallet while doubling as a fully functional grappling hook when needed. Made from a 2mm thick metal plate, the tool remains compact until the moment it’s called into action. Preparing it is simple: snap away the outer edges and bend the four hooks, two up, two down, until it transforms into an improvised grappling hook.

The concept is aimed squarely at outdoor enthusiasts, survivalists, and members of the EDC (Everyday Carry) community who appreciate tools that balance practicality with portability. The Grappling Hook – Wallet Edition can be deployed in camping, climbing, or emergency situations and can even be stored in first aid or survival kits for quick access.

Durability has also been a strong focus of this campaign. Responding to feedback from early backers, the project has announced a stretch goal that increases the thickness of the tool by 0.5 mm, boosting its load capacity to between 100 and 280 pounds. Impressively, this enhancement comes at no added cost to backers, making it not just a novel design but also a more reliable one.

While a grappling hook in wallet form may sound like something out of a spy film or comic book, the Kickstarter’s success suggests there’s real interest in compact, versatile survival gear. Whether it becomes a must-have for EDC collectors or a practical companion for outdoor adventures remains to be seen, but for now, the Grappling Hook – Wallet Edition has certainly captured attention.

So what are my thoughts on this little wallet accessory? Well, I think it’s a fun novelty, but I just can’t see how practical it is in reality. Does the hook actually work? The metal seems very weak and flexible, and I’m pretty confident it wouldn’t be able to support a fully grown man such as myself. There’s also no footage of the hook in practice - only the assembly shown in the video at the top of the page. Overall, I think it’s a fun idea and a nice novelty for people who enjoy the outdoors and love their everyday carry accessories, with bonus points for its affordability and the ability to store it in a wallet.
