What makes the Wask Wallet particularly interesting is the intention behind its creation. Most small-scale leathercraft brand, like Willow Craft Goods, tend to carry premium price tags, and for good reason. When a single artisan spends hours, often an entire day, handcrafting a wallet from scratch, the final cost naturally reflects the time, effort, and skill involved. It’s not unusual to see these kinds of wallets priced anywhere from $200 to $500. That’s the reality of handmade craftsmanship.

But the Wask Wallet breaks that mould. It was designed to be an accessible, affordable option without compromising the values of handmade quality. It’s a rare example of a handcrafted wallet that doesn’t demand a luxury price tag, offering a great entry point for those curious about artisan-made goods but put off by the usual high cost.

But Willow Craft Goods have taken a different approach designing a wallet that keeps the handcrafted feel and quality while making it accessible to a wider audience. How? It’s all in the design.

The Wask Wallet is entirely stitchless crafted without a single thread. No stitching means no saddle stitching, which, if you’ve ever taken a leathercraft course (as I have), you’ll know is one of the most time-consuming parts of making any leather item. By removing that step entirely, Willow Craft Goods can produce significantly more wallets in a day without sacrificing material quality or finish. That clever bit of design efficiency is what allows the Wask to remain both affordable and artisan-made.

You’re still getting top-grade leather, you’re still getting skilled craftsmanship just without the inflated price that typically comes with it. It’s a smart move and, in my view, a rare win-win in the world of handmade wallets.

Understanding the Wask Wallet’s Design

The Wask Wallet is built around what I’d call a pouch-style layout a design that’s relatively uncommon in the wallet world. The only other example that comes to mind is the Johnny Wallet by Loyal Stricklin, which also takes a similar approach and is a great wallet in its own right.

So, what exactly is a pouch-style wallet? Essentially, the leather is folded and shaped to form one or more internal compartments. In the case of the Wask, there are two. These compartments are enclosed by a flap of leather that folds over to keep your contents secure, reducing the risk of anything slipping out. It’s a clever, minimalist design that avoids the need for closures or fasteners while still being practical.

Inside, a simple partition divides the compartments. The front section is ideal for cards, comfortably fitting around 6-7 cards, and the back section can hold a good amount of folded cash, up to 15 bills depending on the currency (or addtional cards if you so wish). This structure keeps everything organised and easy to access, all while maintaining that clean, stitchless look. Other small items like keys or a few coins can also be carried without worry, thanks to the flap that folds over and keeps everything securely in place. Even without zips or buttons, the clever design ensures nothing slips out during everyday use.

It’s also worth pointing out that the Wask Wallet comes in two sizes: small and large. The smaller version is just slightly larger than a standard credit or debit card, measuring approx 9.6cm (H) x 6.3cm (w) x 2.1 cm (D), while the larger option comes in at 10.1cm (H) x 7.3cm (W) x 2.5 cm (D) (this is filled with cash, cards, etc..).

Personally, I lean toward the smaller version, it fits better in the pocket and feels more discreet. That said, the larger version has its perks. It offers more room to manoeuvre, making it easier to access your cards and cash, and it can hold more bills in the rear compartment. In the end, it really comes down to what suits you best. For this review, I’ve primarily been using the smaller Wask.

Flipping the wallet over, there’s an additional slot on the back with a dual function. At first glance, it looks like a simple card slot, which it is - you can slide one card under it comfortably, maybe two if you’re pushing it. But there’s a circular cutout in the leather that gives this slot a clever twist. That circle is actually designed to perfectly house an Apple AirTag. If you’re someone who worries about losing your wallet, this built-in AirTag slot makes tracking it through Apple’s ‘Find My’ app incredibly easy.

Don’t use AirTags? No problem. The cutout still serves a purpose. It doubles as a quick-access point, letting you slide out the card stored beneath using your thumb or finger. Whether you’re all in on Apple’s tracking tech or not, it’s a smart and thoughtful design detail that adds real functionality.

A Perfect Choice in Leather

What really sets the Wask Wallet apart for me is the leather. Willow Craft Goods clearly know their materials, and you’re never going to catch them using anything second-rate. For the Wask, they’ve gone with a premium Dollaro leather from the renowned Italian tannery Conceria Walpier and it’s an excellent choice.

The wallet is crafted using two variations of this leather: one with a pronounced texture and one smooth, giving it a subtle two-tone effect that looks and feels premium. The leather is also noticeably thick, adding to the wallet’s durability and presence in hand. It’s the kind of leather that looks better with age, softening slightly while developing a rich patina over time. For a wallet that’s meant to be both functional and beautiful, the material choice couldn’t be more on point.

When I measured it, the leather came in at around 1.8mm thick - which is considerably more than what you’ll find in most mass-produced wallets. Only other handmade brands operating at this level of craftsmanship tend to use leather this substantial. It gives the Wask Wallet a real sense of quality and longevity right out of the box.

At the time of writing, I’ve been using the Wask for just over a month, so I can’t speak to its long-term ageing just yet, but I fully expect it to develop a beautiful patina as the leather softens and matures. One thing worth noting: straight out of the box, the wallet was pretty stiff.

That’s not a flaw - it’s a sign of proper leather. Like a new pair of well-made boots, it needs a bit of use to break in. After about a month, I found it had softened up just enough to make daily use comfortable without losing its structure. If you’re considering picking one up, just be aware that it’ll take a little time to reach its sweet spot.

Final Verdict: Do I recommend the Wask Wallet?

The Wask Wallet is a brilliant showcase of smart design and skilled craftsmanship. Willow Craft Goods set out to create a truly affordable handmade wallet, and they’ve nailed it. The Wask holds its own against wallets that cost twice as much, without cutting corners on quality or design. The built-in AirTag slot is a clever touch that blends modern convenience with the traditional charm of a full-grain leather wallet something many brands fail to balance well.

In terms of durability, it’s top-tier. The 1.8mm thick leather from Conceria Walpier is tough, luxurious, and built to age beautifully. The stitchless construction isn’t just a stylistic choice it’s what makes the wallet quicker to produce while still remaining structurally sound. And then there’s the price: the Original Wask and Slim Wask both retails at $45.00. That’s outstanding value for a handmade leather wallet.
