The Game Boy SP Ruby Wallet: A Nostalgia Trip for Pokémon Fans
This limited edition bifold is a childhood dream come true.
Some products are designed to be practical. Others are designed to make you feel something. Every so often, something comes along that stops you mid-scroll and transports you straight back to being a kid again. That's exactly what happened to me recently, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. If you're a Pokémon fan who grew up during the Game Boy era, you might want to sit down for this one.
Did my dream wallet just become a reality?
Nostalgia is a hell of a drug, and as those late millennials and early Gen Z start earning adult money, those things that elicit nostalgia become a real selling point, harkening back to a time gone by. The Game Boy SP Ruby Wallet did exactly that for me. It was 2003, and all I wanted for Christmas was a brand new Game Boy Advanced SP (the backlight was a game-changer), but also the newly released Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Luckily for me, Santa was kind to me that year, and the clever guys at Nintendo released the ultimate limited edition SP themed entirely around the games themselves – this was the Christmas to end all Christmases.
Fast forward to early 2026, and the Instagram algorithm has clearly known far too much about me when a reel appeared of what I’d have to admit – since I own this site – might be my self-proclaimed perfect wallet, or at least the best wallet in the world for 10-year-old me. The brand Si Je Ne Suis Pas Là, known for their incredibly welcome nostalgia-baiting, released a bifold wallet that takes direct inspiration from the very Game Boy I still have to this day capitalising on the SP’s clamshell design that works perfectly with a bifold wallet.

The origintal Gameboy advanced SP - Groudon edition. The box was even cooler.
The attention to detail: no expense spared
The attention to detail this wallet provides is nothing short of astounding and something that could have only been created by a true fan. From the metallic leather perfectly colour-matched, to the exact designs of Groudon (red), Rayquaza (green) and Kyogre (blue). As I’ve alluded to here, the wallet is available in three versions of the Generation 3 Pokémon games released by Nintendo: Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.
The back of the wallet perfectly replicates what an actual Advance SP looks like, down to the barcode, screws, and the game itself being inserted into the console. And finally, no expense has been spared with the box this wallet comes in. The box has cleverly been designed to directly resemble a Game Boy Advance box, with every bit of attention and detail thought out just like the wallet itself.

Two of the three versions of the wallet. Fun fact, emerald never got an SP Console release.
How good of a wallet is it?
Being a limited edition run of just 50 wallets, I’ve unfortunately missed the boat on actually purchasing this wallet. But I can talk about more of what this wallet offers in terms of storage, size, and quality. The first thing to note is this wallet’s size. It’s ever so slightly larger than an actual SP, coming in at 9.5cm x 10.5cm.
This makes the wallet roughly 12% wider and 28% deeper than an SP, that’s not a criticism, but gives a good idea of how large this wallet is. Don’t get me wrong, if you’re more into your minimalism, this wallet might not be for you, its size would most likely make it bulkier in the pocket, and this size is probably the max I’m personally willing to carry - but some things are worth it, right?
Storage is very good; there are 5 individual card slots for your debit and credit cards, with photos showing storage of one card in each. It’s likely you could fit 2 cards in each for a max of 10, but without having the wallet in my hands, I can’t comment on how tight the slots would become, potentially hindering easy access. Finally, the wallet has a clear slot where you can store any coins. This is also where you’d have to store your banknotes, as the wallet doesn’t come with any dedicated note storage.

Purchasing the wallet gets you the wallet, awesome box and three stickers. Price: €45,00
Sold out but not forgotten: will the Pokémon SP wallet return?
Overall, I’m very impressed with the Game Boy SP Wallets by Si Je Ne Suis Pas Là. The attention to detail is amazing, and the wallet actually seems like it would be enjoyable to use, even if its size is a little larger than I’d like, a personal preference after all. The box it comes in is definitely something to keep, and it also comes with 3 free stickers, all of popular Game Boy Advance games. Overall, I hope to one day get my hands on one of these wallets – but for now, I’ll have to keep dreaming. To all who managed to get their hands on one, enjoy! Gotta catch ‘em all.
