The GrainSeek Travel Wallet hits Kickstarter
A bold, oversized design from Singapore promises better organisation for travellers - but leaves some big questions unanswered.
Travel wallets are everywhere these days, but the idea hasn’t really evolved much over the years. So when a new Kickstarter project claims it wants to “reinvent” the travel wallet, it’s something worth a closer look. The GrainSeek Travel Wallet sets out to do this with an unusually large design that breaks from the typical slim, passport-sized format. It’s aiming to offer travellers a different way to carry and organise their essentials.
A new project out of Singapore is aiming to shake up the travel wallet space with its highly functional, decidedly large design. The GrainSeek Travel Wallet is currently live on Kickstarter, but it’s fair to say it’s a divisive proposition.
Unlike the usual slim, passport-sized travel wallets you might stuff into a jacket pocket, the GrainSeek goes big. Really big. It measures 8 inches (20 cm) long, 4.3 inches (11 cm) high, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick. That’s closer in spirit to a clutch purse or wristlet wallet, a comparison not lost on anyone who’s used similar products, like the Buffalo Jackson Madison Leather Wristlet.

This size isn’t purely for show. The wallet features a concertina-style interior, so when it unzips fully (secured by a wrap-around zipper), internal dividers expand accordion-like to reveal neatly segmented storage. Cards, cash, receipts, and small travel documents can all slot into these compartments in an organised way. This method of storage is reminiscent of the approach popularised by hard-case wallet brands like Ogon, who have championed this style for years.
The idea is clear: no more fishing around for a boarding pass or currency notes at the worst possible moment. Instead, everything is laid out, accessible, and securely zipped in.

Yet for all that, the Kickstarter page itself feels oddly sparse on details. One glaring omission is the type of leather used—it simply says “leather,” offering no sense of grade, finish, or origin. Even the all-important card capacity isn’t listed. These omissions may seem minor, but for backers expected to pay up front for a still-theoretical product, such gaps can be deal-breakers.
And it seems that might be showing already. At the time of writing, the campaign sits at just 14 backers and around $300 pledged, with 20 days remaining. That’s a tough road ahead for any crowdfunded product.
As for personal impressions? This one is a miss. It’s not that wristlet-style travel wallets don’t have a place, they absolutely do, but this model feels too big and heavy (around 200 grams even empty) for what many want in a passport wallet. Travel demands slim, convenient solutions you can forget about until you need them - not something built like a brick.
Still, it’s an interesting idea, and the concertina approach is clever. For the right traveller, someone who wants maximum organisation above all else, it could be a good fit. But for most? This one’s likely to be left behind at the gate.
