Luxury luggage icon Rimowa expanded its product line in early 2024 with the release of an Italian-made card holder crafted from the brand’s signature grooved aluminium. Echoing the design cues of its famed Original suitcase range, the compact accessory reflects Rimowa’s push beyond travel gear into the world of premium everyday carry.

Measuring just 2.8 x 3.8 x 0.5 inches, the card holder features a hinged construction made from two aluminium plates and a plastic interior—an understandable material choice given the friction issues metal-on-metal designs often face. Despite its high-end price tag of $280, the use of plastic inside may raise eyebrows among some buyers.

The card holder accommodates up to six standard-sized cards and offers RFID and NFC protection for added data security. It ships with its own dustbag and gift box and is available in three colourways: silver, black, and a green tone confusingly labelled “titanium” on Rimowa’s website.

While visually striking, the rigid form factor and lack of flexibility suggest it may be better suited to business cards or minimalist use than to carrying cash. As with many of Rimowa’s pieces, the appeal lies in craftsmanship, branding, and design—but whether it holds up in practice remains to be seen.

I’ve always been a fan of Rimowa’s design, history and herritage and its nice to see them taking and applying this to other goods. Whether this card holder can withstand the test of time, i’ll have to try and test for myself.
