Popov Leather Wallet Review

How good are Popov Wallets?

The Good
  • Both the quality of the leather and craftsmanship is some of the highest you can ask for. Popov uses Horween leather one of the most respected tanneries in America.
  • The prices of these wallets are not outlandish and can be affordable by most.
The Bad
  • The wallet range lacks originality in terms of design. These wallets are best suited for those who like tradition with classic bi-folds and long wallets.
  • Prices are quite high. We recommend waiting for a sale where Popov commonly have discounts of up to 40% Off.

You only have to google handcrafted wallets on one of the first results will usually be Popov leather. This brand of handcrafted leather goods and wallets is one of the most popular in the world only rivaled by the likes of big brands or perhaps the famous Saddleback Leather. Popov, we’re first established back in 2013 by one man and a desire to create a simple leather wallet that would fit in my front pocket. To this day Popov remains very family-originated and this is clearly shown in their work ethics, and the heart and soul that goes into each and every one of their products.

The range of wallets provided by Popov is extensive, to say the least. You only have to look at whey offer and you can see that regardless if you’re looking for a slim, thin, large, or long wallet there’s probably something for you in terms of wallet styles. This article is going to go into detail regarding the Popov brand, the quality of their wallets and whether or not they’re worth their price tag, and if the Popov brand is worthy of your hard-earned money.

One thing that stays constant across the Popov Wallet range (apart from the quality), is a general style and aesthetics. Each wallet is made in a traditional way and has a vintage look that is truly timeless. Just take their traditional bifold as an example. It’s rustic leather, and a classic array of colors (including a range of browns and black), meaning you could hold this against a wallet from 70+ years ago and would think it was made at the same time.

This is frankly down to Popov’s use of premium and high-quality materials including their leather. Popov sources their leather from Horween a famed tannery located in Chicago that’s been providing some of the highest quality leather since 1905. This is probably one of the most famous tanneries in the world and is considered one of the best in the world. These leathers are what’s known as full-grain which is the highest quality grades in the world. This includes their Chromexecel Leather which goes under 89 separate processes to complete taking 28 days.

The downside to this traditional take on a wallet comes in its general functionality. Wallets today have innovated beyond the classic leather bifolds so with Popov you don’t get newer style features included with any wallets. This includes the likes of RFID Security, cool hidden card slots, or magnetic clasps. These features aren’t exactly game-changing, but if you’re the type of person who’s looking for something a little more feature-filled or modern then Popov might not be for you. Other leathers Popov use include Debry and Dublin both, again, developed by Horween.

Some of the other noteworthy wallets in the Popov range include the likes of a standard card holder, a beautiful minimalist wallet, and there long wallet that also comes with a wonderful brass chain. My personal favorite wallet in their range, and the one I’ve used myself, is their 4 Card Billfold. This wallet is a mash-up of a variety of wallets and includes a great capacity for cash/cards while also including a dedicated slot for coins. All this is included in a wallet that actually isn’t that large coming in at 3.5″ wide x 4″ tall x 0.5″ thick.

Popov has a great array of reviews on many websites including Facebook and trust pilot. If you still need convincing then these are a great way to get some impartial information on what the masses think of Popov. Below are some reviews which give a nice balanced upon of what some people thought about Popov leather and their wallets:

– All I can say is ‘wow’, this thing really is a work of art! I can tell this is going to be dangerous because I’m already looking to see what I’m going to order next from these guys. Craftsmanship is top-notch, quality is top-notch. This work of art is crafted to last, and develop that ever so beautiful quality leather patina.

– This wallet was beautiful. The leather feels great, and is quite thick which I expect means it will last a long time. My only issue with the wallet was that the billfold on the outside is very snug and it is very difficult to slide bills into it without them folding or crumpling when the wallet is closed. Since it is a little too big to be a front pocket wallet I would probably just opt for the traditional wallet instead and get that little bit of extra room for cards and cash.

Popov wallets start at a price of $44.00 (for their Slim Wallet) and as high as $99.00 (for their long wallet). Honestly, I can’t really complain about these prices. For the quality of the wallets, you’d honestly expat to pay way more for the quality. Find any handcrafted wallet and you’d pay anywhere from $100+. So considering these prices Popov has done a great job of pricing their wallets for the masses and anyone’s budget.

So what do I think of Popov Leather? I honestly think they’re a fantastic brand. They provide a vast array of quality leather goods and have established a brand name for themselves with trust and integrity. They’re best suited for people who want a wallet that has a certain aesthetic to it (you’ll know if that’s you) and want a wallet that has the potential to last a very long time. I have no reason to doubt that Popov’s wallets will last longer than you’ll ever need. For more information on the Popov range of wallets check out their official website using the link below.
