Pokémon-Inspired Wallets Launches Crowdfunding Campaign
A premium twist on pocket monsters: this minimalist leather wallet campaign blends nostalgia & craftsmanship.
A new Kickstarter campaign has popped up aiming to blend luxury wallet craftsmanship with the nostalgic pull of classic Pokémon. Titled “Pokémon in Your Pocket: Handcrafted Italian Leather Wallets”, the project is currently live and already funded. For those of us who grew up on Pokémon Red and Blue and remember linking up Game Boys with a chunky cable, there’s something undeniably cool about the idea of carrying a piece of that childhood in your back pocket — this time in leather, not plastic.
Created by a brand called Noztalgic, the wallets are handcrafted in Italy using vegetable-tanned full-grain leather. Where most Pokémon-themed wallets on the market go for bold, gimmicky graphics or oversized logos, this campaign takes a different route: the designs are minimalist, almost subtle. Think sleek embossing, clever iconography, and tonal colour palettes inspired by classic starter Pokémon like Bulbasaur, Pikachu, and Snorlax. It’s a design-first approach that shows genuine creative thought — and frankly, it makes most official merchandise look a bit lazy by comparison.

That said, there’s one big question hanging over this campaign: is it even officially licensed? There’s no mention of Nintendo, Game Freak, or The Pokémon Company anywhere on the page. While it’s possible Noztalgic has secured some kind of niche or unofficial permission, it seems unlikely — especially given how fiercely protective the Pokémon IP is. If this isn’t licensed (and all signs suggest it isn’t), it’s hard to imagine these being sold anywhere beyond Kickstarter without legal turbulence.
And while the designs are undeniably impressive, we do take issue with one thing: the use of AI-generated imagery throughout the campaign. I’m more than happy to call out those who use AI as i’m a firm beleiver it is becoming an issue especially in the creative industry it’s lazy to say the least. For a campaign trying to sell handcrafted quality and artisanal craftsmanship, relying on AI visuals feels like a tonal mismatch.
Still, it’s hard not to root for this one. It’s a tiny campaign, and that’s part of the charm. With only a handful of backers and a modest goal already hit, this might be the only time these wallets ever get made. If you’re a lifelong fan looking for something that blends your love of Pokémon with grown-up quality, this is worth a look — if not for the wallet, then for the novelty of owning something this rare.
