PhotoWallet Launches on Kickstarter: A Smart Wallet That Stores Your Memories - Literally
The world’s first E-Ink smart wallet hits Kickstarter - blending tech, tracking, and sentimentality in one curious package.
A new contender in the smart wallet space has just hit Kickstarter, and it’s unlike anything we’ve seen before. Dubbed the PhotoWallet, this device is positioning itself as “the world’s first wallet with an E-Ink display,” combining traditional wallet functionality with modern tech and a splash of nostalgia.
What Is the PhotoWallet?
At its core, the PhotoWallet is a trackable, RFID-blocking smart wallet made from top-grain leather. But what really sets it apart is the built-in 1.54-inch 4-colour E-Ink display embedded on the front. This screen can display up to 100 of your favourite photos—swappable via a dedicated mobile app compatible with both iOS and Android. There’s no subscription model here, no added fees—just a straightforward setup process that lets users personalise their wallet with photos, quotes, or other digital mementos.
The wallet also features Apple Find My and Google Find My Device integration, meaning users can track it globally, set up geofencing alerts, or even sound a 90dB buzzer if it’s lost under a couch or stuffed in a bag. A built-in “hotkey” lets good Samaritans see your contact details directly on the E-Ink screen without needing to unlock anything or install an app. Powering all this is a long-lasting battery that charges wirelessly and reportedly lasts up to eight months on a single 10-minute charge.

Travel Companion: The PhotoSlim
Alongside the flagship wallet, backers can also opt for the PhotoSlim, a magnetic modular cardholder made of carbon fibre. It attaches to phone cases, acts as a stand, and provides extra storage for travel essentials like boarding passes and SIM tools.
It’s clearly aimed at a tech-savvy crowd—those who appreciate both convenience and personalisation. It plays on emotional appeal by turning the wallet into a kind of digital keepsake, a place for “carrying memories” as much as cash or cards.
And judging by the numbers, the idea is resonating with some people. At the time of writing, over $25,000 has already been raised from more than 268 backers, with time still left on the campaign.

Sometimes you have to ask yourself not why you’ve done something, but whether you should have done it in the first place. Was anyone really asking for a so-called “photo wallet”? I don’t think so. It feels more like a gimmick than a genuinely useful feature. The tech adds unnecessary bulk and complexity to something that’s meant to be simple and reliable.
We have smartphones. That’s how we carry and view our photos—period. If you want to carry a physical photo, go traditional. Throw a picture of your kid or your dog in your wallet like our dads and grandads did. That’s timeless.
Yes, the tracking features are great. Yes, the wallet seems to function exactly as advertised. But personally, it’s just not for me. Because I made the mistake of asking, why? Still, with more than $25k pledged, clearly not everyone agrees. Maybe I’m the one who’s out of touch.
