Introducing the ‘Fan’ Wallet - A Fresh Twist on Form and Function
Two minimalist designs, one shared concept—Introducing the Shuffle Wallet and Slidemorph.
It's all too uncommon that wallets evolve and change and someone enters the game with a new style unheard of or seen in the past. You only have to take a look at the majority of crowdfunded wallets on the market to see that everybody is basically copying each other and it really shows. But once in a blue moon that can change and it did last year with the release and crowdfunding of the Shuffle Wallet. Let’s take a look at this new type of wallet and see what all the hype is about.

In the beginning, there was one
The Shuffle Wallet launched on Kickstarter back in February 2024 and quickly made waves, raising a massive $325,000 on Kickstarter, followed by another $300,000 on Indiegogo. That’s no small feat and easily puts it among the most successful wallet campaigns of the year. If any wallet deserved a bold new design, this was it.
I’ve also got to give a shout-out to the Shuffle Wallet campaign video, it’s brilliantly produced and genuinely funny. Easily one of the best I’ve seen from any wallet brand (watch it here or at the top of the page).
Now, onto the wallet itself. The Shuffle uses what can only be described as a “fan” or “card fan” style opening. You know the way people spread out cards in a poker hand? That’s exactly how your cards appear, fanned out in an overlapping arc for quick visibility and access. Shuffle refers to this as the “deck of cards” mechanism, which gets the idea across nicely, though technically, you don’t open a deck of cards like that. Still, the name works.
Developed by the team at Mobile Pixels, the Shuffle Wallet is a great example of how wallet design continues to push boundaries. It proves that with a smart idea and solid execution, even something as everyday as a wallet can feel fresh, inventive, and worth the hype.

A second ‘fan’ wallet is born
Normally, I wouldn’t write a whole article just because a new wallet shares a design idea - but the Shuffle Wallet now has real competition. A fresh Kickstarter launch, the Slidemorph Mech Wallet, dropped just last month and bears a striking resemblance to the Shuffle Wallet’s signature fan-style opening. Despite launching with a modest goal of just £1,547, it’s already soared past £10,000 in funding - with 38 days still to go.
While it may share the same card-fanning mechanism, the Slidemorph takes a noticeably different approach. Its design leans heavily into a more rugged, industrial aesthetic, similar to what you’d expect from brands like Dango, Aviator, or Ridge. But where it really stands out is in its features. This wallet is absolutely packed.
There’s the “ninja blade”, a tiny built-in blade for opening boxes and similar everyday tasks. Then there’s a flathead screwdriver tucked in, handy for quick fixes, and a very visible bottle opener embedded into the side of the wallet. They’ve done a great job of integrating these tools without disrupting the wallet’s clean lines or usability. It even includes a lanyard hole and money clip to round out the feature set.
All in all, the Slidemorph is shaping up to be a serious contender. While the Shuffle may have come first, the Slidemorph might just be the better-looking wallet, with more functionality and the same satisfying fan-style card spread. If I were Shuffle, I’d be watching this one closely.

Is the ‘fan’ style wallet here to stay?
It’s probably still a bit too early to say whether this new fan-style opening is here for the long haul - like the Ridge-style or pop-up mechanisms that have cemented themselves in the wallet world. I haven’t had the chance to get hands-on with either of these wallets yet, so I’ll hold off on making a final judgement. Until I can properly test them in everyday life, it’s hard to say whether this is a genuine evolution in functionality or just a clever gimmick.
That said, I always have a lot of respect for brands, new or established, that are pushing the boundaries and trying something different. So whether it’s the original Shuffle Wallet or the newly launched Slidemorph, it’s worth checking them out and seeing what all the buzz is about.
