Ekster Finally Has a Passport Wallet, with included Tracker
The Dutch brand's first passport wallet includes a rechargeable Apple Find My tracker card. No AirTag required.
I have been wondering for a while when Ekster would release a passport wallet, and it is good to see they have finally done it. The Trackable Passport Wallet has arrived in collaboration with Dore and Rose, a women's sleepwear brand, which I will admit raised an eyebrow when I looked them up. The connection between a Dutch wallet brand and a pajama company is not immediately obvious, and I will not pretend otherwise. The product page credits Dore and Rose's signature aesthetic as a design influence, though I struggle to see a clear throughline. What I can say is that the wallet itself looks clean and well made, and the collaboration is ultimately irrelevant to what really matters here.
The Built-In Tracker
The headline feature is the included tracker card, and it is the most compelling reason to pay attention to this wallet. A rechargeable tracker is built directly into the passport holder and synced with Apple Find My, meaning you can pull up the exact location of your passport from any iPhone or Apple Watch at any time. No separate AirTag to buy, no adhesive mount to deal with, no extra bulk added to the wallet.
I am genuinely surprised that this concept has not appeared more widely in the passport wallet category before now. A passport wallet is one of the carry items most likely to go missing, whether through theft, leaving it behind in a hotel safe, or the general chaos of international travel.
According to Ekster, around 300,000 passports go missing in the US each year according to the campaign figures, and the average person spends 16 hours a year searching for lost items. An integrated tracker is a no-brainer for this product type, and yet I am struggling to think of another passport wallet that includes one as standard rather than expecting you to retrofit an AirTag or similar.
One caveat worth being upfront about: the tracker only works with Apple Find My, which means Android users are locked out entirely. As someone who uses Android, that is a limitation I feel personally. Hopefully a Google Find Hub compatible version follows at some point.
The Wallet Itself
The wallet is made from genuine French cowhide leather, LWG Gold rated, which is a meaningful certification covering environmental and social compliance in the tanning process. It is slim at just 0.28 inches thick and holds a passport, four cards, cash, and a boarding pass across dedicated slots. Dimensions are 5.31 by 3.74 inches closed.
Design-wise it is clean and slim, consistent with Ekster’s broader aesthetic. It is not doing anything dramatically different from other passport wallets on the market in terms of its physical layout. But it does not need to, because the tracker is the differentiator, and it does that job better than any passport wallet I can point to right now.
Value for money: Worth the price?
At $89.00 this is excellent value. A standalone AirTag retails at around $29 on its own, and a quality passport wallet will set you back anywhere from $40 upward. Getting both in one product at $89, with the tracker rechargeable rather than relying on a replaceable battery, is a strong proposition. This is also a limited edition release with no restock planned, so if you want one it is worth not leaving it too long.
