The Affordable EDC (Tactical) Wallet

5.11 Tactical is a brand with a rich history having achieved some amazing feats. The brand first launched as far back as 1975 when founder Liz and Royal Robbins decided to design their own clothes after they couldn’t find the right clothing in which to explore Yosemite (originally called Royal Robbins®). Since then, they’ve gone on to form relationships with the FBI training academy, providing the original 5.11 training pants in 1992, and continue to work with law enforcement over the years.

Today we’re going to be reviewing one of their most popular wallets - The 5.11 Status Bifold Wallet. As you’d imagine from a brand like 5.11 Tactical they put a lot of emphasis on durability and utility and design wallets made for people who spend a lot of time outdoors and in extreme conditions. The first thing to note is the 5.11 Status Wallets’ choice of material. Made from a strong Nylon webbing this hardy yet flexible material provides many benefits including water resistance, durability, and a wallet which is easy to clean. The Nylon material itself isn’t the most pleasant to handle nor does it look very premium, but let’s be honest, those aren’t the reasons you’d but this wallet in the first place.

In terms of functionality, the wallet has many features that put it well in line with a Tactical or EDC Wallet (Everyday Carry). On the outside is a branded front loop panel taking advantage of the Nylon material for added strength. Inside, the wallet is designed and laid out like a classic bi-fold style wallet. It has 3 card pockets (for storage of around 6 credit/debit cards) and an ID Slot. It also has a full-width cash slot for banknotes to lay flat for easy access.

At a price tag of $29.99, the Status Wallet by 5.11 Tactical is an affordable little wallet with simple functionality and great utility. This wallet isn’t aimed at everybody - far from it. This wallet goes a step further and has taken a minimal approach to develop a wallet suitable for the outdoors. I’ve reviewed many wallets like the 5.11 Status in the past and although this isn’t the best, it’s by far the most value for money you can get.
