Jekyll & Hide is a luxury leather goods brand founded in 2002 in Cape Town, South Africa by Bernard Bultemeier. The brand began with humble origins in hawker trading at local weekend flea markets, where Bultemeier found his first customers. The name itself, a play on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, was settled on at 2am one morning. The business grew quickly into wholesale and retail across South Africa and then internationally, with operations now spanning a Durban factory and global distribution. Jekyll & Hide is known for full-grain cow leather sourced from Brazil, India, Argentina, and locally, paired with vegetable tanning. The range covers wallets, briefcases, backpacks, luggage, and crossbody bags, all designed for the long haul and a natural patina with age.
