Hawbuck is a small cottage brand founded by Wes Cox, an industrial designer who started making wallets because he could not find one he liked. Frustrated with bulky leather wallets and intrigued by Dyneema, one of the strongest materials in the world (originally known as Cuben Fiber and used in military, industrial, and outdoor apparel), Cox set out to make a wallet that took advantage of the material's lightness and strength. His signature Lean H01 wallet weighs just 5 grams, measures 0.9mm thick, and features thumb holes for quick access to cards and cash. The brand has grown a cult following among hikers and ultralight enthusiasts, and the name 'hawbuck' is an old word meaning something between vagabond and bumpkin, possibly the root of the word hobo.
