Exentri was founded in 1999 by Jon Richard Skjelvand and Marius Schiøll, two childhood friends from Groruddalen in Oslo. The pair noticed the rapid shift towards card payments and set out to design a wallet tailored for card users rather than cash. After years of prototyping, trial production began in China in 2005, and the wallet officially launched in 2006. The Exentri Wallet is a compact trifold with seven card pockets, a separate slot for notes and receipts, and signature side windows that let you slide your two most-used cards out with a thumb without opening the wallet. By 2012, Exentri's wallets were sold in 13 countries with 600,000 units sold, and the brand remains a benchmark for Scandinavian wallet design.
