Ettinger was founded in 1934 by Gerry Ettinger, a German-born émigré who moved to London in 1933 and started the company as an agent for German leather goods factories supplying Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, and Asprey. Now run by Gerry's elder son Robert, who took over in 1990, Ettinger remains family-owned and is one of the few British luxury leather goods makers still manufacturing in the UK. The company holds a Royal Warrant first granted in 1996 by HRH The Prince of Wales, and a second granted by HM King Charles III. Every wallet is handcrafted by skilled artisans at Ettinger's factory in Norbury, South London, with the brand famous for its confident use of colour and classic British style.
