Carl Friedrik was founded in 2012 in London by Swedish brothers Niklas and Mattis Oppermann, originally trading as Oppermann London. The brand was born out of a Christmas gift, when one brother wanted to give the other a quality leather laptop sleeve and couldn't find one that combined craftsmanship with affordability. Named after their maternal grandfather, Carl Friedrik now produces wallets, briefcases, backpacks, and luggage from vegetable-tanned leather and high-grade materials, all backed by a lifetime guarantee. The brand's signature pared-back aesthetic draws from Scandinavian design principles, and its luggage was famously featured in the third series of HBO's Succession.
