Saddleback Leather was founded in 2003 by Dave Munson after he sketched a rugged book bag while teaching English in Mexico, inspired by the satchel Indiana Jones carried. He found a leather artisan in Juarez to build it from full-grain leather and solid brass, and the bag drew so many compliments back in the United States that what started as a side income to support his youth ministry work turned into a full leather goods company. Munson opened the brand's own factory in León, Mexico in 2008 and now operates out of headquarters in Azle near Fort Worth, Texas. Every Saddleback product is built around the motto 'They'll Fight Over It When You're Dead', backed by a 100-year warranty and a 'no breakable parts' design brief. Munson and his wife Suzette also run the sister nonprofit Love 41, named after Psalm 41, which channels profits into work in Rwanda with Africa New Life Ministries, Mexico, and Texas. Saddleback's range covers bags, wallets, belts, and other leather goods, with a near-cult following among collectors who treat the pieces as heirlooms.
