Kamino was started in 2018 by Kan Yamamoto, a graphic designer based in the village of Tosayama, Kochi, Japan. The name means 'made of paper' in Japanese, and the brand merges the art of Japanese origami with washable paper technology to produce wallets that are slim, durable, and machine washable. Yamamoto spent his twenties in Switzerland and Berlin studying fine art and graphic design before returning home to Kochi to dig into his cultural roots, and Kamino started as a personal experiment in whether a global, sustainable business could be built from a remote Japanese village. The answer turned out to be yes. Every Kamino wallet is handmade by Yamamoto and his small team using a single sheet of washable paper, no stitching, no glue, and seamless folded construction.
